The gambling industry as it relates to casinos and gambling establishments in the country is overseen by several regulatory agencies - the Department of the Interior, the Department of Health, and the Gambling Commission (Gambling Commission, www.gamblingcommission.govt.nz). They act on the basis of the Gambling Act 2003 with various amendments and additions.

Under the Gambling Act 2003 in this country prohibits the operation of "remote interactive gambling" ("remote interactive gambling"), defined as "gambling by a person at a distance by interaction through a communication device". Since this definition explicitly covers internet casinos there are no national online establishments that offer to play gambling in New Zealand.
