Note to visitors of our online gambling catalog that the monopoly in the country is strictly enforced not only with land-based casinos, but also with regard to sports betting. The Dutch government has made public the story of the €100,000 fine imposed on the illegal online operator Global Stars in September 2013.
Online gambling in the Netherlands
The Dutch government has been working for two years on a bill to legalize online gambling. Finally, on July 7, 2016 a law on online gambling in the Netherlands was passed, which came into force on January 1, 2017. Many international gambling operators have already expressed their interest in the country's gambling market. However, before they can provide services of their online gambling establishments and their mobile versions, they need to obtain an official license. The gambling regulator (Dutch Gambling Authority - Kansspelautoriteit, KSA) blocks all online gambling sites in Holland that operate without a license. Note that both land-based and online gambling in the country is taxed at 29%.
